Computer Science Skills Set | Heritage

The Computer Science Co-op program at CÉGEP Heritage College is a three-year, career program designed to train students to become information systems professionals in business, industry and the public sector. 

The objective of the Computer Science program is train the student to become an entry-level programmer/analyst who is able to develop, implement and maintain information systems and full-stack web applications. A strong academic and practical curriculum encourages lifelong learning.

Computer Science offers both first and second year co-op placements during the Summer work term. 

Students who participate in a co-op work term are able to work with a variety of languages, tools, techniques, and environments.

First-year student skill set

  • PC Hardware/software installation/troubleshooting
  • Windows 11, Linux, Windows batch scripting (BAT, POSH), shell scripting (BASH)
  • Java
  • JavaScript and JavaScript libraries (jQuery ), HTML, CSS
  • Network setup and troubleshooting
  • Responsive web site design
  • Microsoft Office

Additional skills of second year students

  • Responsive web application design, Node.js, React, Redux
  • C#.NET, MVS with Entity Framework using Visual Studio and VS Code
  • PHP Database and schema design
  • SQL Server – SQL, T-SQL
  • Software design and testing
  • Mobile application design (Android)
  • Team-based and agile project methodologies
  • User Interface design
