On Thursday, February 22nd (12pm in the Auditorium) and Friday, February 23rd (12:00pm), prepare to be inspired by the incredible life story of the one and only Honourable Doctor Jean Augustine, with a screening of her film: "Steadfast – The Messenger and the Message": A Documentary Celebrating the Life of the Honourable Dr. Jean Augustine.

Hon. Dr. Jean Augustine is a Grenada-born Black Canadian woman who served as the first ever Black woman to be elected to the Parliament. In 2007, Augustine was inducted as a member of the Order of Canada.Thanks to her tremendous work, a motion was passed unanimously in 1995 by the House of Commons to have February recognized as Black History Month nationwide.

Serving with distinction the federal electoral district of Etobicoke-Lakeshore until 2006, Dr. Jean Augustine left her mark in different roles at the Parliament such as Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, Minister of Multiculturalism and the Status of Women; Chair of the Foreign Affairs and International Trade committee and Chair of the Human Rights Committee.

As a politician, social activist, and educator, the Honourable Doctor Jean Augustine has graced this country with her distinctive work and legacy.

We are honored to receive Dr. Jean Augustine at Heritage College to speak to students, staff and the public about her life story.
