Coronavirus Update – March 13, 2020 6:00pm (18:00)

The College is committed to the health, safety and well-being of our students and staff. We are continuously monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID 19) situation and will keep you updated as new information becomes available. It is important to note that the Cégep Heritage College website is your official source of information.

Based on the announcement made today by Premier François Legault, we are in a situation where exceptional measures must be taken. Therefore, all schools, Cégeps, and universities, both public and private, will be closed for an initial period of two weeks up to March 30, 2020.

Currently, a contingency plan has not been put in place regarding the academic calendar by the Quebec government. Once we are provided with a directive, we will let you know how we will proceed.

Clinical practicums “Stages” and fieldwork for students are still in operation; however, it is important for students who currently participate in them to contact their coordinator for further instructions.

The College will continue to provide payroll services during this period.

IT services will be provided only on an emergency basis.

Cégep Heritage College is taking extra measures to ensure your safety. During the closure, we will take this opportunity to disinfect the school.

Staff and teachers who need to come in to get items from their office, may do so on Monday March 16, 2020 from 10:00am – 2:00pm using door #1 only. Unfortunately, this will be the only opportunity provided due to the disinfection process.

We urge you to take all the necessary precautions during this time to stay healthy and safe.

Updates will be provided every business day at 3:00 pm.

Cégep Heritage College remains open until further notice.

Cégep Heritage College remains open. The College is committed to the health, safety and well-being of our students and staff. We are continuously monitoring the Coronavirus situation and will keep you updated as new information becomes available.

All Employees at Heritage (public sector employees): Today, the Government of Quebec stated that all public sector employees are required to self-isolate for a 14-day period after returning home from a trip abroad from all countries outside Canada. This directive only applies to employees returning to Quebec as of today March 12, 2020.

Students at Heritage (general population): The Government of Quebec recommends that all people returning from home from a trip from another country self-isolate for a period of 14 days and monitor their symptoms; however, it is not mandatory but it is recommended.

People who travelled abroad during the Quebec spring break during the week of March 2 – 8th are not required to self-isolate. However, these people must monitor their symptoms for 14 days following their return to Quebec. If symptoms arise, they must isolate themselves and call 1-877-644-4545.

In the event that students self-isolate, accommodations will be made to allow the students to continue with their studies. More information about this will be shared on Friday afternoon.

We would like to take this opportunity to stress that the former rules of washing your hands frequently, coughing in your elbow and seeing your health care professional if you are feeling ill continue to apply.

If you have come into contact with a person who is being tested for Coronavirus (COVID 19), it is recommended that you wait to learn of the results. If the result comes back positive, do not come to school prior to getting tested yourself.

The government recommends to avoid groups of 250 people or more, in cases such as social gatherings and social events. Classes will continue; however, events will be monitored on a case by case basis.

Discussions are being held regarding classes being given online in order to minimize disruption to the winter semester. Once a decision has been made, we will advise students.

Please continue monitoring our website, as all new information will be posted here first.

Risk to Canadians

At this time, PHAC has assessed the public health risk associated with COVID-19 as low for the general population in Canada but this could change rapidly. There is an increased risk of more severe outcomes for Canadians:

While a COVID-19 outbreak is not unexpected in Canada, our public health system is prepared to respond. PHAC, along with provincial, territorial and community partners, continues to reassess the public health risk, based on the best available evidence as the situation evolves.
