Co-op of the Year Awards:
2016 Recipients

Jean-Sébastien Pivin

Recipient of the 2015 Helen Smyth Memorial Co-op Student of the Year Award for a 1st co-op.

Jean-Sébastien worked at CCI Antennas as a Technology Student. CCI Antennas is a leading provider in radio frequency solutions for cellular (mobile) infrastructure. During his co-op work term, Jean-Sébastien participated in the assembly, testing, and result reporting of antennas being developed for clients. He also went beyond what was expected of him and assisted in the re-organization of the test facilities. His seamless integration into the workplace, enthusiasm for technology, and outstanding work ethics not only enabled him to make a tangible contribution, but also have an impact!

“We are missing having him around, he left a great impression and showed great promise as a future technologist and contributor to any organization he works with.”

- Jaime Vives, CCI Antennas

Bradley Walsh

Recipient of the 2016 Helen Smyth Memorial Co-op Student of the Year Award for a 2nd co-op.

Bradley worked at the Department of Canadian Heritage as a technical support technician. The highlight of Bradley’s co-op came when he was able to assist a senior official (VIP) with a damaged device that could not be repaired and the data was declared lost. To the surprise of all, Bradley was able to find a solution and retrieve the data. They were so impressed and the significance of his assistance was such that his name ended up on the Minister’s desk… not just her Office, but on her desk! Later on during the work term, the Minister personally called him directly for assistance. On another occasion, he was also requested to provide the Minister with technical assistance at the House of Commons.

“Bradley’s passion for IT is contagious and positively influences the rest of the team to go further, including myself.”

- Jonathan Guindon, Department of Canadian Heritage

“This co-op presented me with a plethora of valuable and enjoyable experiences. I attended the Global Defence and Security trade show (CANSEC) where I interacted with manufacturers, and took a tour of the frigate HMCS Toronto.”

- Jeff Milks
