The Social Science - Commerce Profile at Heritage is a two-year program that prepares
students for university studies in business, economics, computer
science, and law. Program courses are designed to provide an introduction
to these disciplines, as well as to prepare students with the analytical,
written and mathematical skills necessary to succeed in university
studies. Specifically, the program focuses on the areas of management,
accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, economics, and
computer information systems.
Program Competencies
Heritage College Social Science - Commerce Profile graduates will have:
- obtained a global appreciation of commerce, and the various
societal, legal, political, technological, and environmental factors
influencing modern business practices;
- gained a general awareness of the key areas of business, the
career options available to Commerce graduates, and the necessary
academic training required to pursue specific fields of interest;
- developed the qualitative ability to research data, review information,
draw conclusions, and formulate recommendations;
- acquired the quantitative skills to analyze scenarios and derive
results using appropriate techniques;
- become proficient in organizing, writing, and presenting business
reports in a coherent and professional manner;
- demonstrated effective team relationship abilities through participation
in group projects;
- applied fundamental theories of financial accounting;
- become familiar with the application of management information
systems in the administration disciplines;
- developed the ability to utilize techniques of calculus and
linear algebra in business and economics applications;
- become adept in oral presentation techniques.
Career/Study Opportunities
Social Science - Commerce Profile graduates are employed in a wide range of fields such
as high technology, financial services, professional sports, tourism,
health and environmental services, and government agencies. Position
titles include general managers, accountants, marketing analysts,
economic development officers, commercial lawyers, computer systems
managers, advertising executives, consultants, and small business
owners.
Upon completion of university studies, graduates often attain the
Chartered Accountant, Certified General Accountant, and Certified
Management Accountant professional designations.
