The Nature and Adventure Tourism program will prepare students to perform the role of an Outdoor and Nature Tourism Guide.
The goals:
- Process market-related information
- Communicate effectively in the workplace
- Meet customer needs
- Supervise groups
- Impart techniques associated with various activities
- Identify the interpretive potential of a given area
- Navigate in natural environments
- Intervene in an emergency situation
Additionally, certain components of the program aim to help students develop sound relationships with customers, ensure their safety, and handle a variety of needs when accomplishing their work-related tasks.
Learning Outcomes:
This program will train students to:
- Demonstrate a professional work ethic
- Ensure the safety of tourist groups
- Preserve the environments in which activities are performed
- Share their expertise of said environments and activities while guiding
Students will be taught to problem-solve, to communicate well, to lead, and to manage risk. In addition, students will develop excellent skills in planning and organizing excursions and expeditions, in urban, semi-urban and natural settings.
Program Profile and Course Descriptions:
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to this program, applicants must have a High School diploma or the equivalent. The candidate must pass an examination in French and English. The final selection of candidates will be complemented by an assessment of physical fitness and an interview.
Ministerial Requirements
In addition, the applicant must meet one of the following requirements:
a. the applicant's studies have been interrupted for at least two consecutive terms or one school year;
b. the applicant is covered by an agreement entered into by the College and an employer or by a government program;
c. the applicant has completed at least one year of post-secondary studies over a period of one year or more.
