Operating Systems (A+ Hardware)

In this course, students will be exposed to the various operating systems in use at the present. This course is a general overview of Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP platform. Students will learn about the installation procedures and analyze the differences, pros and cons, of each system as related to various workplace environments. The student is expected to be able to understand, terminology and the logic of each platform.

Micro-Computer Architecture (A+ Software)

This course is designed to have students fulfill the requirements to be successful at the Comptia A+ certification. By the end of this course, the student will be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of microcomputer software concepts, be capable of installing new adapters, memory and additional storage and be able to demonstrate basic troubleshooting techniques

Managing a Microsoft Windows Server 2003

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to manage accounts and resources in a Microsoft Windows Server™ 2003 environment. The course is intended for systems administrator and systems engineer candidates who are responsible for managing accounts and resources. These tasks include managing user, computer, and group accounts; managing access to network resources; managing printers; managing an organizational unit in a network based on Active Directory service; and implementing Group Policy to manage users and computers.

Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills that are needed to effectively maintain server resources, monitor server performance, and safeguard data on a computer running one of the operating systems in the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 family. Students will learn the practical preparation of the administration of server resources, the configuration and monitoring of server performance, as well as managing device drivers, hard disks, data storage, and disaster while maintaining software by using Microsoft Software Update Services.

Implementing, Managing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Network Infrastructure

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to implement, manage, and maintain a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 network infrastructure. The course is intended for systems administrator and systems engineer candidates who are responsible for implementing, managing, and maintaining server networking technologies. These tasks include implementing routing; implementing, managing, and maintaining Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), Domain Name System (DNS), and Windows Internet Name Service (WINS); securing Internet Protocol (IP) traffic with Internet Protocol security (IPSec) and certificates; implementing a network access infrastructure by configuring the connections for remote access clients; and managing and monitoring network access.

Planning and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Network Infrastructure

The goal of this course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to plan and maintain a Windows Server 2003 network infrastructure. Students will plan a TCP/IP physical and logical network as well as troubleshoot routing strategies. As a planning function, students will strategize a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), optimize and troubleshoot this protocol as well as plan and optimize Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS).

Planning, Implementing, and Maintaining a Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Active Directory Infrastructure

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to successfully plan, implement, and troubleshoot a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Active Directory service infrastructure. The course focuses on a Windows Server 2003 directory service environment, including forest and domain structure, Domain Name System (DNS), site topology and replication, organizational unit structure and delegation of administration, Group Policy, and user, group, and computer account strategies.

Designing a MS Windows 2003 Active Directory

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to design a Microsoft Active Directory service and network infrastructure for a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 environment. Students will describe the process of designing an Active Directory infrastructure as well as network infrastructure that supports Active Directory. Students will also design a forest and domain infrastructure, site infrastructure, group policies, administrative structures as well as designing a physical network structure that supports Active Directory.

Implementing a Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills that are needed to install and maintain Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration. Students will gain knowledge in securing a network from Internet access and how to control access from a private network to the Internet.

Implementing and Managing a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills that are needed to update and support a reliable, secure messaging infrastructure. This course offers a significant amount of hands-on practices, discussions, and assessments that assist students in becoming proficient in the skills that are needed to update and support Exchange Server 2003.

Designing, Deploying, and Managing a Network Solution for the Small and
Medium Size Businesses

The goal of this course is to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to select, deploy, and manage a Microsoft networking solution for small and medium-sized businesses. Students will learn the practical applications of installing and upgrading systems to MS Windows 2003 server as well as configuring the Windows Small Business Server 2003 by completing tasks on the designed “To-Do’ List.

Introduction to Linux
420-M09-HR   
Students are introduced to the Linux tree structure, the concepts of inodes, links and types of directory entries. These concepts are the foundations of tree structure navigation in Unix/Linux. The student will become familiar with various aspects of directory listing information in Linux. The concepts of relative versus absolute paths are covered as well as the syntax of Unix/Linux commands is studied.  Navigation, file/text search, file editing, hard and soft links, system information and process management will be applied within the Linux system.

Career Preparation

At the end of the course, students will have developed a peer-networking group through hands-on workshops and seminars delivered through industry. They will also develop a credible résumé targeting the IT industry. They will learn the importance of establishing and maintaining industry relationships, communication skills when dealing effectively with individuals and the concept of teamwork. Students will develop skills in recognizing and interpreting clients’ needs and be prepared upon completion to make the transition from student to industry professional.

Work Placement
420-M11-HR
This course introduces the student to the reality of the new work relationship. It has duration of 10 weeks and it will take place in an organization outside of the school. Also it is the student’s responsibility to find a host organization for the Work term project. The student will continue to learn and practice the new knowledge recently acquired in the course of the program, at the host organization. The participant must pass this course with success in order to obtain the attestation.
